Soap Flavors, Brownies, and a Pokémon Millionaire

Today, I’m going to talk about something I never thought I would be talking about: soap flavors. I was wandering aimlessly through the school hallways when I decided to go into a random bathroom. Nothing special about it, just a regular bathroom. But after using the bathroom, I noticed something strange about the soap. One of them said “Cranberry Ice,” another said something like “Raspberry Juice,” and there was even one called “Super Mountain,” or whatever it was. I was genuinely surprised. Since when did soap start sounding like a drink menu? Personally, Cranberry Ice is not exactly the kind of soap I would normally choose. It sounds more like something you would order at a café. But I smelled it, and surprisingly, it smelled great. So naturally, I had to try the others. First two, then three, then four. By the time I had finished experimenting with all these different soaps, my hands smelled like a very confusing combination of fruits and whatever else was in there. Honestly, they didn’t smell that great anymore.

I still don’t understand why our school needs so many different soap scents. I can totally imagine the person responsible for buying bathroom supplies sitting at a computer, searching for their favorite drinks online. Maybe they were originally shopping for cranberry juice, suddenly remembered they needed to order soap, and accidentally ended up buying Cranberry Ice instead. Then they probably thought, “Well, why not get three more flavors?” And that’s how our school ended up with an entire collection of drink-inspired soaps. I will admit, though, Cranberry Ice smelled much better than I expected. It almost makes you wish you could drink it. Unfortunately, it’s still soap.

Anyway, moving on to something that is actually edible. Today we had a special snack at school. Can you guess what it was? Brownies! Now, I know most people love brownies, but personally, I don’t understand why everyone is so addicted to that sweet, sugary mush. I mean, they’re fine, but I don’t think they’re nearly as amazing as everyone makes them sound. Sometimes I eat a brownie just because I don’t want to sit there watching everyone else happily munching away on theirs. It’s not even that I particularly want one. I just don’t want to watch everyone else enjoying brownies while I’m sitting there with nothing. There is one exception, though. I actually enjoy fudge brownies. Those are pretty good. I also like ice cream sundaes, but a fudge brownie sundae? I don’t get it. I’ve had one before, and it wasn’t necessarily bad, but I still don’t understand why people are so obsessed with it. Maybe I’m just not a brownie person.

But the most interesting thing that happened today was at our Pokémon Club. Apparently, some kids in this club have Pokémon card collections worth thousands of dollars. And then there’s this one kid who is basically the Elon Musk of Pokémon cards. Seriously. When I went to the club, he surprised everyone by casually buying us Pokémon card packs. Just like that. Snap. Free Pokémon packs for everyone. I was shocked. We don’t normally get free Pokémon cards at school, but there he was, handing them out like it was nothing. Everyone got a pack, and we even had a little competition to see who could pull the best card. And guess what? I actually got a pull! Now, if you know anything about my Pokémon card luck, you’ll understand why this is surprising. I almost never pull anything good. But somehow, this time, I got a card worth about two dollars. Ka-ching! Okay, two dollars isn’t exactly going to make me rich, but it’s still better than nothing. And considering my usual luck, I would definitely call that a success.

But here’s the crazy part. This kid apparently spent around $400 buying cards for people, and his own binder is worth something like $2,000. He was practically dropping hundreds of dollars right in front of our eyes. I was genuinely amazed. There are only two possibilities here. Either he’s rich, or his parents are rich. And personally, I think the second explanation is probably more accurate. But don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying anything bad about him. He’s actually a genuinely nice person, and I think it’s really generous of him to share his cards with everyone. He even said he might hook us up with more packs next Friday. So now, apparently, Friday Pokémon Club might include free Pokémon cards. That’s definitely something to look forward to.

And that was basically my day. I discovered that our school bathrooms have soaps that sound like expensive drinks, confirmed that I still don’t understand the obsession with brownies, and met the Elon Musk of Pokémon cards. Just another completely normal day at school.
