I got the flu, and honestly, it completely knocked me out. But I wouldn’t say being sick is always depressing. In fact, sometimes I actually want to be sick. There are a few reasons why being sick isn’t necessarily the worst thing in the world.
First of all, just because you’re sick doesn’t automatically mean you can’t enjoy yourself. Sometimes, being sick once in a while can actually be pretty nice. Why? Because when you’re sick, your parents usually let you do whatever you want. I remember one time when I was sick, I wanted to sleep until 11 in the morning, and my parents basically said, “Whatever.” So I did. I also skipped all my homework, and they let me do that too. So being sick isn’t always such a terrible experience.
Of course, I understand why a lot of people don’t like being sick. There are plenty of disadvantages. Sometimes you’re so sick that you can’t even enjoy the benefits of being sick. But I’ve noticed something interesting. Whenever I’m sick, there’s usually one particular day when everything is just right. It’s the day when you’re not too sick, but you’re also not healthy enough to go back to your normal responsibilities.
Think about it. If you’re too sick, you feel terrible and can’t enjoy anything. But if you’re too healthy, you have to go back to school, do your homework, and get back to work. So there’s this perfect little window when you’re still sick enough to get all the special treatment, but well enough to actually enjoy it. That’s probably the best day of being sick.
Honestly, that’s the only thing I really like about being sick. Everything else isn’t exactly wonderful, especially the flu. Getting completely knocked out by the flu was definitely not a great experience. One thing I would say is that being sick is extremely tiring. You feel exhausted even when you’re doing almost nothing.
I actually didn’t mind having a little homework while I was home. I guess doing some work is nice because it wakes up my brain a tiny bit. I didn’t want to spend the entire day doing absolutely nothing. Luckily, I didn’t have that much homework, so overall, I think I did pretty well.
Anyway, something else happened while I was sick. We had some people staying over at our house, and they brought Pokémon cards. We ended up trading cards, which was pretty fun. I wouldn’t say I got the greatest deal, but whatever. It was still a good experience.
Speaking of Pokémon cards, there’s something I’ve noticed about Pokémon collectors. I think there are basically two levels of Pokémon fans. The first level is pretty normal. You like Pokémon, you collect a few cards, you trade with your friends, and that’s fine. Nothing unusual about that. But then there’s the second level.
These are the people who are seriously obsessed with Pokémon. And I don’t know why, but I always seem to meet people who have better and better cards than I do. Sometimes it actually annoys me. I’m just sitting there wondering, how do these people even get these cards? I mean, seriously, some of them must have spent thousands of dollars on Pokémon cards. There’s just no way someone is casually pulling a Mega Charizard from their very first pack. No way.
Overall, being sick definitely isn’t the greatest experience, especially when the flu completely knocks you out. But there are still some benefits, like sleeping late, having less homework, and occasionally getting to trade Pokémon cards. I guess being sick isn’t always as terrible as people make it sound. You just have to find that perfect day when you’re not too sick to enjoy yourself, but not quite healthy enough to go back to your normal life.
