Welcome to my podcast. Okay, I’ll get straight to the point. I’ve been gone for a while, and it’s because of a field trip. But before I talk about the trip, let’s do a quick social experiment. What do you think will happen when you put three boys in one room with a bathroom and let them live together for three days? I’ll tell you this: it’s all right. But then imagine an entire cabin full of kids, three kids in each room, with showers and everything. What do you think will happen after three days?
Before I get to that social experiment, I should probably talk about the field trip itself. Also, I kind of lost my voice because apparently I ate too many tangerines. I don’t know. Apparently tangerines can make you lose your voice? Although I feel one hundred percent not fine right now. Anyway, let’s get back to the story and where it started.
At the beginning, everything was okay. We got on the bus, and this was a coach bus. We were all hyped. I mean, I’ve been on a coach bus before, but this was a school coach bus. The floors looked like wood, the seats were padded, there was air conditioning, and there was even a bathroom. For a school bus, it basically had everything you could ever dream of.
The ride was about two hours. We watched Finding Nemo, and then we started The Incredibles. I’ll tell you what happened with The Incredibles: basically, we spent half the time making fun of it. Like, “Yo, why is this big old butt taking up the entire screen?” or “Why is his head shaped like a trapezoid? Why is it a triangle?” That was basically what we talked about on the way there and on the way back too.
But what actually happened on the first day? That’s what I’m covering today.
The first day was chaotic. We unloaded all our stuff from the coach and carried everything down to this little covered area they had set up. Just imagine a bunch of forest, and then suddenly there’s a clearing in the middle. There was this huge long building where we were staying, with the lake down below. We went inside with all our luggage, and it was pouring rain. This is an important part of the story. Remember: it was pouring.
The first thing they talked to us about was this guy named Michelangelo. It was basically a behavior story explaining the rules. We had a strike system: four strikes and you’re out. And “out” means you go home.
I somehow got my first strike just by saying, “So technically, isn’t it three strikes and you’re out?”
Apparently, that counted as strike number one.
Then, when I looked under my bed, I found something written there in permanent marker: “Michelangelo’s wizu. And he knows where you live.” Under that was another name: Silas Scratch. I don’t know who wrote it there, but it was definitely permanent marker. I know Silas Scratch from a book. I’m not going to expose the book.
Okay, fine. Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
And Silas Scratch is definitely not a good character.
The story about Michelangelo was also… aggressive. Really aggressive. I’m not going to explain the whole thing because it probably isn’t appropriate, but basically, he managed to get all four strikes before he even started his first activity.
Anyway, that’s it for today. If you want to hear more about what happened on this trip and especially what happens when you put three boys in one room for three days. I’ll continue the story in the next podcast. My voice is completely wrecked right now, apparently because of some tangerines.
So, I’ll see you there.
