A new species has just been found, and it is a kind of cat. It is the first new cat species found in more than a century, and it is named the Tilcayo. However, should we really want to find more species, or should we leave them alone? Many times, when new species are discovered, they can become targets for trafficking or be used to make money. Another important question is what actually happens after we find a new species. Sometimes, not much changes. Conservation efforts are not always strong enough, and the discovery may only become a headline for a short time.
In addition to this, when you look at many efforts to stop forest destruction and protect animal habitats, there may be rules, but people do not always follow them. Another important fact is that many discoveries happen by accident. Some major discoveries were not even planned. The biggest question is what we can really do once we know about the Tilcayo cat. Efforts to preserve it are good, but there may still be more risks than benefits if people begin trying to capture, sell, or traffic the animal.
Moreover, I think that sometimes it is beneficial to find more species because they could help us solve scientific or medical problems. However, the problem is that when people discover something new, one of the first ideas can be how to make money from it. This could become dangerous for the Tilcayo because it may not yet have enough protection, and some people may try to capture it.
In summary, I think there can be more cons than pros to finding new species if we are not ready to protect them. People may try to sell them, capture them, or put them in zoos, and those outcomes may not be good for the animals. Discovering a new species can be important, but I think protecting it should be just as important as finding it.
